This year, with the release of Joker, I was inspired to dress myself as Scarecrow from the Batman series, to accompany Gerry's look as Joachin Phoenix's Joker. After getting a couple shots at a public staircase that looked much like the ones in the film, we then got some shots at a nearby booth with great lighting and woodwork, making a cool set for a Joker/Scarecrow crossover session.
I also tried to color grade this set of photos to mirror the color-grading in the film, which let me explore selective-color modification and other coloring tools to make more precise changes. |
My other photographer friend took these lovely photos once the sun went down. |
I do think Scarecrow should appear again as his own movie character just like Joker. |
A couple days later, I went to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts for their celebration of Dia de los Muertos. In addition to community altars, taco trucks, and galleries by Diego Rivera, there were performances of traditional Mexican music and dancing, of which I got many great photos.
I used my external flash mounted on my camera's hotshoe, plus a piece of tissue paper to help diffuse the light, but I still ended up with not enough light and more noise than I would've liked. |
The mariachi band made up of junior high students included an accordion player, which I've never seen before. |
This couple had the best face-paint that I saw at the event. |
I think I would've enjoyed an outdoor festival for Dia de los Muertos, with booths filled with more food, activities, and certainly more calaveras de azucar; nonetheless, it was a fun time for half a Saturday.
