New 35mm Prime Lens

May 6, 2019

The other day, I got a surprise gift from my stepdad Kevin, a 35mm prime lens with a lens hood. It also comes equipped with a light ring on the outside of the lens, which comes in handy when photographing small things (like bugs!) in low light.

My first subjects to test the lens' macro abilities were those of my bug collection. I'm struck at how sharp the images turned out, which is not surprising because since prime lenses have fewer moving parts, they can deliver better optical quality.

A few days later, a friend and I went on a morning hike, letting me practice my portraits and landscape with this lens; I was not disappointed!

I'm in love with how sharp the lens is, and how useful it is for both macro and landscape shots, saving me time from switching lenses in the field!
